Flights to Canada and the USA have more strict requirements. The baggage on these flights should not exceed 70 x50 x 38cm in dimensions. This limit is 90 x 72 x 42cm for all the other destinations. Etihad does not allow any checked baggage weighing more than 32kg.  

USA and Canada flight’s baggage allowances are calculated based on the number of pieces. Economy class passengers are allowed two pieces up to 30kg in total weight. Business and First Class passengers are allowed a maximum of two pieces with a weight not exceeding 40kg in total. Fees for additional baggage are increased on the day of the flight’s departure. It is therefore advisable that you organize your baggage delivery beforehand. 

Excess Baggage Allowance

Etihad Airways determines the amount of excess baggage you can fly with according to a number of factors including your membership in their frequent flier program. The membership is tiered into bronze, silver, gold, and platinum levels. Silver members are allowed an additional  10kg, gold members 12kg, and platinum are allowed an additional 15kg. 

For non-members, excess baggage cost is determined by the route. When travelling to the USA or Canada, prices are as high as  $256 for an extra bag up to 23kg. Obviously, these fees are quite high and many choose to utilize a separate luggage delivery company to transfer their baggage.
