Air China Cabin Allowance for Infants

Air China allows you to check a stroller or a bassinet for free as part of the cabin allowances for infants. However, you are not allowed to bring extra bags onto the plane unless they count toward your hand luggage allowances as a ticketed passenger.

If you are taking an Air China flight that is using a weight-based system for any checked bags then you are given one free bag no bigger than 10 kg, no larger than 100 x 60 x40 cm.

By comparison, if you are travelling with an international flight that uses a piece based system then you are allowed one free bag for your infant’s no larger than 23 kg and no bigger than 115 cm in total.

Luggage Delivery Company your Air China Baggage Alternative

If you don’t want to deal with the limited hold baggage allowance from Air China, you can use a luggage delivery company. Luggage delivery companies are a wonderful alternative that will ensure your bags get where you want them to go for a single, flat fee. Not only can this fee be less than what an airline would charge especially for oversized bags but you get great peace of mind and a much easier go at the airport without having to wait around the carousel or lift heavy bags through security.

What if My Bag is Overweight

If your bag is overweight, Air China will subject you to excess baggage fees.

If you are travelling on a domestic flight, they charge you an additional fee of 1.5% of whatever your one-way economy adult fare is for that particular route for every kilogram overweight.

For example: If you are allowed to check a bag no more than 20 kilograms, and your bag is 25kg, you will be charged 1.5% x 5 for each extra kilogram. If your ticket for a one-way economy adult fare costs $200, you will be charged $3 per extra kilo.

If you are travelling on an international flight you will be charged a fee based on the route you are travelling for any additional luggage or any bags that are larger than the baggage allowance.

For example, You are on a flight between Canada and Asia. For your first piece of extra bags, you will be charged $170. For your second piece of extra luggage, you will be charged $170. For your third piece of extra luggage, you will be charged $230. If any piece of luggage is overweight, you will be charged not just for the extra baggage but a $75 fee for being too large or too heavy.

Air China Excess Baggage Allowance for Sports Equipment

Air China allows for a wide range of special baggage and this includes sports equipment that is oversized. However, be advised that any sports equipment you bring will have to be packaged according to the airline rules based on the type of item it is, such as snowboards in a snowboard bag or bicycles in a bicycle bag. You will be charged an excess baggage fee for oversized items that exceed the parameters placed on any checked baggage with the airline. If your sports equipment Falls within the parameters for checked baggage with Air China, it will count toward your checked baggage allowance. If you already used your checked bag or hold baggage allowance you will be charged an extra fee.

Air China Carry-On Baggage Allowance and Musical Instruments

Similarly, musical instruments are also subject to excess baggage fees depending on the size. If your musical instrument falls within the dimensions allowed for carry-on baggage, it will count toward your carry-on baggage allowance. If you are bringing another bag on board in addition to your musical instrument, you will be charged for any extra bags you bring.

All musical instruments need to be in a hardshell case and fit properly within the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. If they do not, they will have to be checked and Air China will charge you an extra fee for musical instruments that are larger than the parameters allowed for checked baggage or any checked baggage containing a musical instrument beyond what your ticket allows.
